Small, easy ways to reset without the pressure
Winter has a way of showing us what’s piling up — extra layers, extra stuff, extra noise. Lately, I’ve been thinking of this season as a good time to slow down and do a little clearing out. Nothing big. Just enough to make the house feel lighter.
Instead of waiting for spring, I’m giving myself permission to start now. We don’t have to follow the rules of spring cleaning. We can break tradition and reset in small, manageable ways — whenever it feels right.
“We don’t have to wait until spring to clean things out. We’re allowed to break traditions and start now.”
Reset & Refresh
These are a few things I’ve been doing when I have the energy — not all at once, not perfectly:
-
Going through the pantry and tossing expired food and old seasonings
-
Letting go of clothes and shoes I haven’t touched in a year (even the ones I keep thinking I’ll wear someday)
-
Swapping out bedding and blankets to make nights feel cozier
It’s not about decluttering everything or getting it “right.” It’s just about making a little more room.
Simple Weekly Habits
A few easy habits help keep things feeling steady through winter:
-
Opening the curtains during the day to let in some natural light
-
Wiping down high-touch surfaces
Nothing fancy. Just small things that help the house feel lived-in and cared for.
There’s no right season to begin — just the moment you decide to make a little more space for the life you’re living now. A calm home comes together slowly, one small choice at a time.
If you’re enjoying this slower approach, my previous blog post explores it a bit more — you can read it here.
Kind regards,

Hi Kieara,
Happy New Year! I enjoyed reading the blog. We are in a deep freeze here in MO with Arctic air and below zero wind chills. We had some snow last weekend, and may get some tomorrow morning. I hope you all are staying warm and safe. I definitely need to make space at home and declutter. Thanks for the tips and reminder 🥰
