When it comes to my birthday, I love to celebrate.
I enjoy getting away for my birthday even if it is a staycation, weekend getaway, or a week-long trip.
A few years ago, I went to Corpus Christi for my birthday. It was supposed to be a 3-day getaway for me and my spouse. Due to his work schedule, he could not get off so, I went solo. I didn’t want to let my plans go to waste.
Many people are afraid to take solo trips, especially women. I am here to say, if you plan your trip and are aware of your surroundings you will be okay.
Corpus Christi is a 6.5 drive from our home. Yes, I could’ve caught a 1.5 hour’s flight, but I like long drives. I have my phone on Appleplay, choose an R&B playlist and vibe out. The only issue on this drive is getting a knick on my windshield going through Waco. I was pissed but I didn’t let it impact my trip. It was only the first of many to come.
Where did I stay
I booked a stay at Lively Beach Resort. It is located on Mustang Island, which is 25 minutes outside of Corpus Christi. I found this location on social media. It was a beautiful resort with a pool, rooftop lounging and located off the beach.
Back in 2021, it cost me $491.00 for 3 days & 2 nights for a stuido 1 bath.
Features for my room:
- Full Kitchen
- Fully Furnished with all the comforts of home
- 349 Square Feet
- King Bed
- Desk area
- Luxurious Full Bath
- Wi-Fi, Smart Television
- Sleeps 2
- I had a partial Gulf view
My room number was M-208. Here is the resort website if you are interested in booking, click here!
One thing I find interesting is people drive their cars on the beach in Texas. I thought that was weird since I have only been to Florida and Georgia beaches prior.
Where did I eat
A road trip in Texas is not complete without a stop at Buc-ees. I stopped here to get some snacks. If you know, then you know how much I LOVE Buc-ees.
My first night, I did takeout at Grub Burger bar in Corpus Christi. I wanted something quick since I drove almost 7 hours. It was my first-time having Grub’s burger and it was pretty good.
The next day was my birthday. I grabbed my free Starbucks drink early in the morning. For lunch, I went to the original Whataburger on the Bay. It is an iconic location which is two stories. I ate outside on the top deck overlooking the water. It was the best because I love Whataburger as well.
For dinner, I had Yo Philly Cheese Steaks. I wanted to try something local in the area. When traveling, I prefer to eat at restaurants located within the city. The Philly’s Finest was located near Shoreline Blvd near the tourist attractions. An employee recommended I try the steak philly with cheese wiz. It was great, happy to listen to his recommendation.
Things To Do
I had considered doing some of the tourist attractions in Corpus Christi. During the time of my visit, people were slowly getting used to COVID-19 adapting to change. I decided against going to different locations, where I would be near people. My goal was avoiding getting sick. I don’t like being sick and I already deal with allergies.
Some of the attractions, I walked or drove by:
- USS Lexington: Museum on the Bay
- Texas State Aquarium
- Selena Memorial Statue
- Selena Museum
My stay was short but I really enjoyed exploring a new city in Texas. I would like to go back and stay at Cinnamon Shore with friends/family. The beach houses are so cute.
Unless I was going out for food. I mainly stayed at the resort. I sat by the pool to get a tan and went in the pool to cool off. I shot some content, which I never posted. Usually how it goes for me.
The entire reason for the trip is the beach. Due to people parking on the beach, I didn’t feel comfortable going to the beach alone. I’m shy when being around a lot of people. I know there are areas on the Mustang Island that doesn’t allow cars on the beach. This particular area did.
Overall, I would recommend staying at Lively beach Resort if you want something close to the beach. It reminds me of airbnb’s because the units are apartments. Everything was great from the food, walking around the Bay area and the location I stayed in. The only issue I had was, I forgot my hat once I was an hour outside of the resort. I tried contacting the resort to see if they could mail the hat but no one ever got back to me. I was disappointed because I brought the hat in Corpus Christi in Target. I had been eyeing that hat for awhile. It is not related to the overall trip but it was my only complaint.
Once I arrived home, the next day we celebrated at Nick & Sam’s restaurant in Dallas. Read about our experience here!
Corpus Christi is another city, I can check off my list for Texas locations. What city in Texas, should I visit next?
